Gossip

Stella:
Bernadette! Bernadette! Where are you? Come here,
Bernadette! I've got some important news to tell
you.

Bernadette:
Well, hi, Stella. What do you want?

Stella:
Bernadette, you'll never believe what I've got to
tell you. Never in a million years!

Bernadette:
Really? What is it, Stella? Come on, tell me!

Stella:
It's simply incredible! I mean, it's just astounding!

Bernadette:
Well, come on, Stella. Let's get on with it!
Tell me! Tell me!

Stella:
Oh, Bernadette, your never going to believe this!
But before I tell you, you have to promise me that
you won't tell anyone, not one single, solitary person!

Bernadette:
OK, I promise. Now hurry, Stella! I just can't wait to
hear this news! Come on, tell me!

Stella:
OK. Here goes, Bernadette. Wait'll you hear this.
Did you know that-(whispers).

Bernadette:
(mouth drops open) Really?! Oh, I just can't believe it!

Stella:
And that's not all! (whispers)

Bernadette:
(mouth drops open) Why, that's simply amazing! That's
the juiciest piece of news I've heard in a long time!
That reminds me of something I heard this morning.

Stella:
Yeah? Well come on, what is it?

Bernadette:
Well, now, Stella, don't get me wrong. I think Harold
is a fine person, just fine as he can be. I mean, I
would never say a negative word about Harold. Far be
it from me to ever cut Harold down. I really like him..
.but....(sounding very gossipy voice) Did you know that
Harold---(whispers and giggles)

Stella:
(mouth drops open) Your kidding! Why, that's incredible!

Bernadette:
I'm not finished yet! (whispers to Stella)

Stella:
Wow! That's some news! Who would have ever thought
Harold would ever do that? What until I tell Barney!

Bernadette:
(hesitating) Maybe we shouldn't tell anyone. After
all, I'm not one to tell secrets, and I know you
aren't either, Stella.

Stella:
Aw we can tell Barney. He won't tell anybody.

Bernadette:
OK. Let's go find Barney.
( Just as they start to leave grandma enters)

Grandma:
Well, my, my, my. If it isn't Stella and Bernadette.
How are you girls today?

Stella:
Oh, hi, Grandma Grey! We're just fine, thanks.

Bernadette:
Yeah, we're fine.

Grandma:
That's nice to know. I've just returned from the grocery
store, and I bought some nice, fresh doughnuts. How would
you like to come to my house and have one?

Bernadette:
M-M-M-M-M-M! That sounds just dandy, Grandma Grey. We
would love to, wouldn't we, Stella?

Stella:
We sure would! (turns and whispers to Bernadette) Hey
Bernadette, let's tell Grandma Grey the news!

Bernadette:
But, Stella, you told me not to tell anyone!

Stella:
Well, just one more person won't hurt.

Berenadette:
Well, Ok. Go ahead and tell her. (turns to grandma)
Wait until you hear this, Grandma Grey. You won't
believe your ears!

Stella:
Yeah! But first, you have to promise that you won't
tell anyone. This is the juiciest piece of news that
I've heard in a long time.

Grandma:
Really? Where did you hear this piece of news?

Stella:
Well, my friend Sherry told me, and Sherry's girlfriend
Erin told her, and Kelly told Erin, and I don't know
where Kelly heard it.

Grandma:
(shakeing her head) My, My, My, My, girls. This piece
of news certianly has gotten around the neighborhood,
hasn't it?

Bernadette:
Wait'll you hear it, Grandma. You won't believe it!

Grandma:
Is it about someone I know?

Stella:
It sure is! And boy will you be surprised when you
hear what this person did!

Grandma:
Just a minute, girls. I don't think I want to hear
your news.

Stella and Bernadette:
Really? (look from one to the other and then at
grandma) Why not?

Grandma:
Because it sounds like gossip to me, and I don't
want to be part of any gossip.

Bernadette:
Gossip? What's gossip, Grandma Grey?

Grandma:
Gossip is saying nasty things about people instead
of good things. Gossip is spreading rumors that might
not be true.

Stella:
You mean it is wrong to gossip?

Grandma: The Bible tells us not to gossip. Gossip
hurts people: it ruins reputations and causes hurt
feelings. If you think the world of others, you
won't tell the world all about others and there problems.

Stella:
Wow, Grandma. I didn't realize we were gossiping. I'm
really sorry. I guess I didn't realize that what I said
could hurt people.

Bernadette:
Neither did I. I'm going to try to not gossip anymore,
Grandma Grey.

Grandma:
That's very wise, Bernadette.

Stella:
Boy, Grandma, you've taught us a valuable lesson. No
more gossip for us!

Grandma:
No more gossip! Now that's the best news I've heard in
a long time! C'mon girls, let's go see about those doughnuts!

Stella and Bernadette:
Yeah! Let's go!
